The Contaminated Sites Committee 
 

The Contaminated Sites Committee is an independent statutory administrative tribunal established under Section 33 of the Contaminated Sites Act 2003 (the Act) and appointed by the Minister for Environment to determine:

  • Appeals against site classifications and investigation or clean up notices given by the Chief Executive Officer of the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) .

  • Responsibility for remediation of contaminated sites.

  • Responsibility for remediation to facilitate recovery of State costs incurred at orphan sites.

  • Whether to cancel, amend or transfer exemption certificates.
     

Committee members

The Committee has between three and five members, each with suitable expertise to make decisions for the purposes of the Act.  The current Committee members are:

  • Warren Dodge (Chairperson)

  • Charmian Barton (Legal Practitioner)

  • Helen Brookes (Environmental Consultant)

  • Vanessa Bryant (Accredited Auditor)

  • Peter McNab (Legal Practitioner)
